What is Shirateke?
After harvesting (cutting) of bamboo, the outer surface of bamboo is washed to remove the dirt. Then the surface of the bamboo is heated using a charcoal fire to bring out it oils, which are then carefully wiped away with a cloth. After the oil removal, the bamboo is exposed to sunlight in sufficient amounts to dry it evenly throughout. This material is called Shirateke in Japanese.
Many beautiful and functional items are made from Japanese Bamboo, among them is the bamboo sake set, an enchanting way of enjoying chilled sake, the Japanese national beverage. The natural wood with its traditional style contributes to the favorable appeal of this product that to complete the elegant look, can be stylishly put together with Natural Bamboo Sake Bottle and Cups. Set includes bamboo sake bottle and 2 cups.
If not correctly maintained, this item is susceptible to cracking in dry climates as bamboo is sensitive to humidity changes. When not in use and for maximum durability, spraying with water then wrapping in a nylon bag or alternatively plastic wrap and storing in the freezer or refrigerator is recommended.
